Grand Opening of the New Hall at Dailes Theatre Reconstructed by Pillar Contractor

September 23, 2025

On Friday, 19 September, Dailes Theatre celebrated the grand opening of its New Hall, whose reconstruction and complex engineering redesign were carried out by our group company SIA Pillar Contractor. Actors and audience are excited about this long-awaited event.

The reconstruction of the New Hall will significantly improve the viewing experience: the increased slope of the auditorium ensures an excellent view of the stage from every seat, while spectators seated in front will no longer obstruct the view on the actors. The stage acoustics, ventilation system and seating arrangement have also been substantially improved.

Another important enhancement is the increased seating capacity: the hall previously accommodated 150 spectators, it will now offer 340 seats. This has been achieved by extending the space to the rear and constructing a new balcony.

The new layout also brings advantages for the performers: a spacious rehearsal hall for large-scale productions has been created. Former Soviet-era rooms on the third and fourth floors have been combined into a single modern space comparable in size to the Main Hall stage. It will be suitable both for rehearsals and for smaller-format performances. The renovated areas now feature new ventilation and fire safety systems, and all engineering networks – untouched since the building was constructed in 1977 – have been completely replaced.

Jānis Lāčaunieks, Chairman of the Board of SIA Pillar Contractor, commented: “The reconstruction of the New Hall at Dailes Theatre was an exceptionally complex engineering project that required a high level of professionalism and constructive cooperation from everyone involved in the construction process. We are proud of what has been achieved and of completing it within a short timeframe and in an atmosphere of mutual trust. We extend our thanks to our partners and especially to the Dailes Theatre team.”

The reconstruction project was designed by architects Reinis Liepiņš and Ilze Liepiņa together with the architectural bureau Sudraba Arhitektūra. Construction works lasted from summer 2024 until 15 September 2025 – at a total cost of 5.1 million euros including VAT, during which 2,500 m² were comprehensively rebuilt.

With the New Hall soon to open its doors to the public, both performers and audiences at Dailes Theatre will enjoy a modern, fully functional space for even more comfortable and inspiring cultural evenings.
